Hugo Gilchrist (ヒューゴ・ジルクリスト) is one of the main antagonists in Tales of Destiny. Hugo is the CEO of the Oberon Corporation and is also the king of Seingald's most trusted advisor. He is Lion Magnus' father and is the one who forced Lion to betray Stan Aileron and the other swordian masters by taking hostage of Lion's most important person. In reality, he is actually being manipulated by his swordian (sentient sword) "Berselius" into doing his bidding by making him kill his wife and driving him insane.
Hugo wields his swordian "Berselius" proficiently in battle. He only has a few dark-based strike artes and a moderate amount of spells but all of them possessing great power. His stats are above average except for his air dash length. His primary weakness is the inability to fight in mid-air.
Due to his simplicity, Hugo is very easy to use but players will have a hard time dodging attacks due to his limited aerial movement.

- Hugo has 640 HP.
- He only has one victory pose.
- Special dialogue scenes will occur when he is faced with Stan Aileron or Lion Magnus.
- His Support artes and Mystic arte allows him to summon two forms of Miktran from Tales of Destiny in battle.
- The recent 5.525 patch added much darker fire effects to most of his moves.
General Tips & Usage[]
- All of Hugo's stats are above average (HP, movespeed, defense against Guard Break) except for his jump height and dash length which is considered average.
- Hugo takes 30% less damage from Dark and Light elemental attacks but takes 40% more damage from Water elemental attacks. (Please refer to this page for more information on ACS Elements).
- Hugo can perform the movement skills available to most of all the ACS characters except for High Jump, Forward Step and Backward Leap.
- He has a moderate delay after landing from a jump.
- His jump height increases whenever he jumps after running.
- He can chain his forward air dash with another forward air dash or a backward air dash.
- Hugo has two basic melee ground attacks (A & B) and does not have any kind of aerial melee attacks.
- Hugo cannot use Cast Cancel like most of the other ACS characters that can use spells.
- During Overlimit Lv1 or Lv2 status, his spell casting aura causes continuous 1 damage to all nearby and approaching enemies and pushes them back. Cast interruption is still possible by using long range attacks.
- During Overlimit Lv2 status, all of his artes, except for his Mystic Artes and Support Artes, do not have TP costs.
- If Overlimit is used to cancel an enemy's combo, the Overlimit duration is cut by 1/2.
- His chain order consist of:
- Melee > Set A > Set B > Set C or Mystic
- If artes classified as Spells or Mystic are used in between the combo, the chain ends.

- Deep Mist
- Summons a thick mist to cover the entire battlefield for a short duration.
- As Deep Mist is in effect, there is a chance that an attack made to Hugo will have 50% less damage and will not stagger hugo (Penetrate).
- Two instances of Deep Mist cannot be casted, the first one must expire first before another Deep Mist can take effect.
- TTS is Fast if the damage casting aura during Overlimit is considered and Slow if not.
- Archangel
- A white halo appears on the ground which summons multiple spears of light to attack an enemy.
- Tosses enemies in mid-air and slightly knocks them back.
- Requires TP.
- This arte is considered to be part of two sets depending on which command is pressed.
- Pressing ↓→←D groups this arte with Set B.
- Pressing ↓↓E while not in Overlimit status groups this arte with Set C.
- Hard to avoid.
- TTS is Fast if the damage casting aura during Overlimit is considered and Slow if not. TTL is Short.

- Miktran attacks by scorching the ground in flames.
- The flame covers about 50% of the screen's length.
- Long duration, this arte causes 16 hits of damage and has a slight pause for every 4 hits made.
- Slight pushes the enemy back for every hit made.
- When this artes command is pressed, there is a chance that Miktran will use Lightning instead.
- TTS is Slow. TTL is Long.

Mystic Artes[]
- Indignation
- Lights gather above an enemy before a powerful dark lightning crashes down on enemies.
- You can continue attacking an enemy after this arte if used to an enemy near a wall and Hugo is also close to the enemy.
- The damage of this arte decreases as the combo counter increases.
- Certain changes happen when this arte is used while Hugo has low HP.
- A cut-in will be shown.
- Damage will be increased.
- You can no longer continue the combo after this arte even if the enemy is against a wall.
- TTS is Fast. TTL is Long normally and Non-Existent if used when Hugo has low HP.
- Meltias
- Miktran in his second form will appear above the enemy and send a powerful beam towards the ground, engulfing the entire battlefield with energy.
- Hugo's strongest arte. Requires Hugo to be in Overlimit status to use.
- If used on an enemy against a wall, you can still continue the combo by using Overlimit.
- TTS is Slow. TTL is Average.

- Hugo's basic long combo. Easy to use but the problem is you have to use Miktran's Miktran β instead of his Lightning so this is a combo based on chance.
- You can continue the combo after Indignation if the enemy is against a wall and Hugo does not have low HP.

Story Mode[]
Hugo has a total of 5 Story Modes, ranging from Easy to Unknown. Note that all modes including and preceding Hard feature opponents that come in "Rounds", meaning that the field, positions, and statistics (HP and otherwise) will reset once an opponent is defeated. Modes after Hard feature opponents that come one after another, meaning that the fields, positions, and statistics of your character will not reset once an opponent has been defeated. However, A portion of your HP is refunded whenever an opponent is defeated in Mania Mode and the last battle in Hard mode. Hugo apparently has an Unknown mode but it's exactly like Mania mode.
